These are the descendants of John Henry Austin who moved to Natural Bridge Virginal in the late 1880's to build the railroad. He married Mary Elizabeth Wright. They had 12 children.
One of those children, John Laird Austin married Ethel Fay Morris of McDowell county North Carolina. They are my grandparents.
The Morris family tree is also listed. It is fascinating.

The way to read this site is the patriarch is listed on the left side
then the children down the middle
then the child who becomes the next generation's patriarch becomes the person listed on the left side
and this repeats until we get to you !

John Henry Austin...born 7-11-1863..died 10-22-1921
buried at Baptist church cemetery Natural Bridge, Va
born either Appomattox or Campbell county Virginia

John Henry Austin came to Natural Bridge in late 1880's as a railroad worker for Norfolk & Western on the eastern side of the James River. After the railroad was built, John Henry Austin and Thomas (Bud) Wright remained as Section Chiefs of two adjoining seven mile sections. The sections began at natural Bridge Station and went southward.
John Henry Austin married Thomas (Bud) Wright's sister Mary Elizabeth Wright.

John Henry Austin married Mary Elizabeth Wright 12-23-1886...Rocky Point
Mary Elizabeth Wright…born 6-20-1871..died 11-29-1943

John Henry Austin was found dead lying beside the Chesapeake and Ohio railroad tracks underneath the Norfolk and Western railroad bridge before it extends across the James river. An obituary from October 1921 states "left home on Saturday morning to go squirrel hunting…did not return…sixty friends and neighbors searched all night....body found Sunday morning...some doubt as to cause of death. Some think he fell from the bridge while others say that since the body was not bruised, he probably suffered an attack of some kind."

Pictured…about 1920 Mary Elizabeth Wright , John Henry Austin, niece Daisy Wright and sister Florence Wright Hanger

After death of John Henry, Mary Elizabeth moved to Winston Salem NC where her son Robert and daughter Margaret had families. This was the only time she had electricity and indoor plumbing. She rented out the home in Natural Bridge which still stands.

Mary Elizabeth remarried Charles Hanger (he made her laugh) and lived on his 70 acres in Waynesboro, Va where she milked cows, tended garden...goods sold at general store Dooms, Va...four hogs raised a year and butchered in fall...Mary Elizabeth would can tenderloin portions…hams would cure in smokehouse for a year...in a good year, 2 yearling calves would be sold at livestock market.. Seeds were saved from prior crops...never purchased...crops were rotated...2 horses provide power.

Daughter Ruth Austin Ring's son Jack Ring asked Charlie Hanger why he didn’t buy a tractor...he replied “cause when I say ‘whoa’ I want it to stop.” The Austin children often visited the farm and Mary Elizabeth kept in close touch with all the children.
Charlie Hanger's brother, John Hanger was married to Mary Elizabeth's sister Florence Wright.

Anthony Morris born 1530 died 1620
married about 1849 to Elizabeth ? at Waltham Abbey in Essex England

It is said that "Anthony" since at least the early 1600's was a
distinguishing Christian name used in the Morris family---the family is
thought to have come from Leicestershire of London.
Much of the following is quoted verbatim from the book “The American
Heritage of James Norman Hall", by Robert Leland Johnson, 1968. A copy is in the Denver Public Library.
"During the reign of Queen Elizabeth in the year 1600 at Reading, in the
county of Berkshire, England, a baby was born, later to be baptized
Anthony Morris, the First known bearer of a name that would be carried
down through the years and whose bearers would make monumental
contributions to the foundations of a new republic to someday be known a s the United States of America.
When Anthony Morris was born on the banks of the Thames, below the
juncture with the Kennet River, William Shakespeare was at the apogee of
his playwright career and England enjoyed civil harmony under
Queen Elizabeth, who had reigned since 1558. Protestantism, which the Queen
espoused, had become the doctrinal basis of the Church of England and
Parliament had enacted it into law be carious acts between 1559 and 1563.
During the year 1588 the Spanish Armada was defeated off the coast of England,
leaving England to replace Spain a The great colonizer of the
New world and as the superior sea power of the world. With this new
position as a colonial power, England took to the shores she colonized
the religion of the Church of England.
One of the first to enter into the spirit of these exciting times was
Anthony Morris--let me call him Anthony Morris I--who left his home in
Reading and emigrated to Barbados, ion the West Indies. There he began
the mercantile enterprises which were to occupy his family for generations".
In 1630 Anthony Morris I became the father on Anthony Morris II who
became a mariner, dividing his time between residences in Barbados and
London, carrying on the business begun by his father.

Nicholas Morris born 1605 died 1664
Married Martha Mottrom born 1609 died 1683

Came to America 1639?...13 years later followed by brother Edward
Nicholas Morris 1st Morris to be citizen of the Americas
Commander Nicholas Morris was born in England in 1605 and died in 1664.
His wife Martha was born in 1609, and after Nicholas’
death she married Thomas Lane, a wealthy land owner of Northumberland Co.
She signed her Morris inheritance over to her son, Anthony, on 15 July 1665.
It is most likely that Nicholas came to Virginia in 1639;
his first daughter Anne was born in England that year, and
according to the will of John Upton he was living on land in James City County which Upton leased to him in that same year.
above info from http://maykensaw.org/twmorrisgenealogy.html Nicholas and a number of other colonists, including Capt. John Haynie,
signed an oath to the Commonwealth of England on 13 April 16 52 :3
Wee whose names are subscribed doe promise & engage ourselves to be true & faithfull to the Commonwealth of England
as it is now established without KING or HOUSE of LORDES...www.jstor.org/pss/4245063

Nicholas patented 182 acres in Northumberland County, Virginia in November 1652.
He also patented 512 acres of land on the Great Wicomico River on 1 June 1654
a patent which was issued to him for the importation of 11 people to the colony.
His land was located next to that of John Hudnall.
Nicholas was a justice of the County Court from 1652 until he died in 1663
He and Colonel Mottrom were leaders of the settlement, now Coan, Coan Mill, etc.,
and among the justices who helped organize this county.

Anthony is identified as a son in the will of his father.
On 3 January 1696, following his death, the court ordered Anthony's estate to be divided between his wife, Dorothy, and his sister, Jane Haynie, an heir.
Anthony probably died without children.
